About Pi-hole

Pi-hole is a self-hosted DNS sinkhole — v6.4.3 shipped on 6 July 2026 — that filters every device on your network at once. Its official requirements are modest: 512 MB of RAM, 2 GB of disk, a static IP and port 53 free. The install script is the easy part; the real work is providing always-on hardware, setting that static IP and changing your router’s DNS. Be clear about the ceiling, because the project itself is: its community FAQ on blocking YouTube ads concludes that in-video ads are not likely to be blocked by Pi-hole and points readers to uBlock Origin or YouTube Premium, since Pi-hole sees only domains — blocking YouTube’s ads would mean blocking YouTube.
