NextDNS filters at the DNS layer, which is the layer no browser extension policy can reach — it covers TVs, consoles and phone apps that have no extension model at all. The free tier is 300,000 queries a month with unlimited devices and every feature; Pro is $1.99 a month or $19.90 a year. One consumer-critical caveat its own staff have stated: once you hit the free cap, filtering silently stops and it behaves as an ordinary resolver until the monthly reset. DNS filtering is also strictly coarser than in-browser blocking: no cosmetic filtering, so blank gaps stay where ads were, and it cannot separate a site’s ads from the site itself when both come from one domain. Treat it as a floor, not a replacement.
