About Karakeep
Karakeep is an AGPL-licensed, self-hosted bookmark-and-archive app, renamed from Hoarder on 5 April 2025 — the old name still survives inside its mobile bundle ID. Treat it as an archiver rather than a reader: mobile offline reading is marked as planned, and its own docs warn that "This app is under heavy development." It is also the heaviest of the three self-hostable picks to run, needing Docker Compose and roughly seven steps to wire up the app, its workers, Meilisearch and a headless Chrome. Hosting it yourself is free; the managed Cloud free tier stops at 10 bookmarks, with Cloud Pro at $4/mo or $40/yr in public beta. Export covers JSON and Netscape bookmark HTML. Like most of the category, its Pocket-import documentation still tells you to fetch a zip from an export page that no longer exists.
